DIACUT Thinwheel System

Diacut custom made-to-order resin bond diamond/CBN wheels and flanges. Wheels include: precision slot grinding, cut-off and slicing-and-dicing operation in single and ganged wheel applications.

They are very accurately made to allow precision slot grinding 0.004" to 0.250" width in increments of 0.001" There is no need to dress the wheel width and risk loss of tolerance or possible breakage, when you can buy the wheel to the correct width instead.

Thin Wheels are mounted between precision flanges for maximum support. Multiple wheel gang sets can be used to improve productivity with multiple slot operations.

Diacut offers both 1A1 and 1A8 type wheels with 24 hour shipment.

All wheels are custom made to your individual needs. The wheels are used for precision slot grinding, cut-off & slicing and dicing operations in single, as well as in gang wheel applications. Diamond wheels grind hard, brittle material such as ceramic, glass, quartz, sapphire, carbide, ferrite, graphite, etc. CBN wheels grind high speed steel, allow steel (HRc 55), special alloys, and stellite.

Type 1A8 ThinwheelTM and Support Flanges

This wheel is a solid diamond or CBN wheel available in standard diameters of 3", 4", 4 1/2", 6", and 8", and in thickness from .004" to .250" in increments of .001" or fraction thereof, holding a thickness tolerance of +/-.0001. They are used for high precision slot grinding, slicing and dicing, as well as some fine cut-off operations. The wheels have to be used with a set of special made Diacut type 1A8 flanges. Flanges are available in different diameters which allows the customer to choose the appropriate wheel exposure (maximum exposure should not exceed 15 times the thickness of the wheel) and this also allows the customer to down flange as the wheel wears. The standard hole size is 1 1/4", but special hole sizes are available upon request. The wheel is used in single, as well as gang wheel applications, on such machines as standard surface grinders, creep feed grinders, OD grinders, and machining centers. They are also used on special machines such as MTI, ITI, K & S, and Meyer Burger.

Type 1A1 Precision Wheel and Support Flanges

This wheel is available in diamond or CBN and in diameters of 3", 4", 4 1/2", 5", and 6", and in thickness from .020" to .250" in increments of .001" or fraction thereof. The wheel has a 1/4" diamond or CBN depth with an abrasive core. The diamond or CBN section is flush with the abrasive core or upon request available with a 1/4" wide approximate .005" deep relief. The standard hole size is 1 1/4". Type 1A1 Diacut support flanges have to be used with the wheel to add stability. They are available from 3" to 5 1/2" in increments of 1/2". If there is a need to have a smaller hole, Diacut offers a special Type 1A1 hole reduction flange. This wheel is used for precision slot grinding mainly in thicknesses over .050" where a thickness tolerance of +0/-.0005" is sufficient.

Type 1A1R (Cut-off) Wheel and Support Flanges

This is a standard cut-off wheel available in diamond or CBN and in diameters of 4", 5", 6", 7", and 8" and in different thicknesses. Diacut uses a steel core and for free cutting the sides are relieved. For rigidity, and therefore, longer wheel life, it is recommended that a Diacut Type 1A1 flange is used. They are available from 3" to 7" in increments of 1/2". If there is a need to have a smaller hole than our standard 1 1/4", Diacut offers a special Type 1A1 hole reduction flange. This wheel is used on surface and OD grinders, as well as on machining centers.

Type 1A1R (Special) Wheel and Support Flanges

This wheel is available in diamond or CBN and in diameters of 4", 5", 6", 7", and 8", and in thickness from .025" to .250" in increments of .001". In this application, Diacut uses a steel core and for free cutting the sides are relieved. This type of wheel is mainly used for deeper cutting applications or if for any reason, the customer needs more wheel exposure. Diacut is able to hold a tolerance of +0/-.002. For rigidity and, therefore, longer wheel life, it is recommended that a Diacut Type 1A1 flange is used. They are available from 3" to 7" in increments of 1/2". If there is a need to have a smaller hole than our standard 1 1/4", Diacut offers a special Type 1A1 hole reduction flange. This wheel is used for precision slot grinding where more wheel exposure is needed and a tolerance of +0/-.002 is sufficient. It is used on standard surface and OD grinders, as well as on machining centers.

Reusable Thinwheel Mandrel

The mandrel has a 1/4" diameter shank and is 2" long. It has a mounted back flange, and a removable front flange, and is available in diameters of 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" and 3/8". The mandrel allows you to hold Diacut’s Thinwheel, manufactured in solid diamond or CBN, and in thickness from .004" to .125" in increments of .001" or fraction thereof, holding a tolerance of +0/-.0002". The Thinwheel is available in diameters of 1 1/2", 1 1/4", and 1" or less to customer’s needs. The mandrel is used to grind OD and ID slots and on such machines as surface grinders using a collet adapter, ID grinders, jig grinders, and high speed grinding attachments on lathes and milling machines.

Mounted Thinwheel Mandrel

The mandrel has a 1/4" diameter shank and is 2" long. It has a mounted back flange and is available in diameters of 3/4", 5/8", 1/2", and 3/8". The Thinwheel is manufactured, in solid diamond or CBN, and is permanently bonded to the back flange. Mounted Thinwheels are available in thickness from .020" to .150" in increments of .001" or fraction thereof, holding a tolerance of +0/-.001". The Thinwheel is available in diameters of 1 1/2", 1 1/4", and 1" or less to customer’s needs. The mandrel is used to grind OD or ID slots and is an excellent tool if you have to grind a slot next to a shoulder. It is used on such machines as surface grinders using a collet adapter, ID grinders, jig grinders, and high speed grinding attachments on lathes and milling machines.
